Before your first lesson

Two minutes on how to sit and where your fingers go. Get this right once and every lesson after it is easier.

Left little finger

1. Sit up, wrists floating

Feet flat, back straight, screen at eye level. Elbows bent at about a right angle. Keep your wrists just above the desk, not resting on it, so your fingers can move freely.

2. Rest on the home row

Left fingers on A S D F, right fingers on J K L ;. Thumbs rest on the space bar. After every key, your finger comes back here.

3. Feel the bumps on F and J

Both keys have a small ridge. Your index fingers find them without looking, so your hands always know where they are.

4. Each finger owns its keys

The colours on the keyboard show which finger presses which key. Reach with that finger only, even when another one feels closer.

5. Eyes on the screen

Don't look down at your hands. Use the on-screen keyboard and hints instead, and switch them off as your fingers learn.

6. Accuracy first, then speed

Type slowly enough to hit 95% accuracy. Speed comes by itself. Ten minutes every day beats an hour once a week.

  • Keep your computer on English. I turn your keys into Hindi, so there is nothing to install. The English test is here too.
  • Every word shows the exact keys to press until your fingers know the way.
